Serato DJ is software designed for DJs by DJs. The latest version has many features you can use to make your sets a hit with crowds at your events.
More capability and options for mixing
The level of information available is awesome. Serato DJ takes some of the pressure out of performing live.
Serato DJ is customizable. You can decide in advance where you want your key details displayed. The BPM, track length, and time remaining are all easy to see and keep track of.
You do need to make sure it’s compatible with your hardware. Most well-known set-ups are available. If your equipment is good enough, it will likely have the needed compatibility.
Serato DJ can build your crates within the software. It will remember each track. It can analyze them for key details, such as track length, Key, and BPM. You can also spot any unusual MP3’s which is fantastic as it avoids making a mistake during your performance.
The recording function is so easy to use. Click a button to start recording, and use the same to stop again. Your take is saved automatically. You can extract it the tracklist before uploading to social media or elsewhere. It’s a massive time saver when it comes to making mixes to promote yourself.
Serato also prides itself on customer support. If you have any issues with the program, such as connecting to devices, they are there to help you solve the problem. The other options don’t come close when it comes to support.
Where can you run this program?
You can run this program on Windows, and Mac OS. It is not available on Linux, but to be honest, you wouldn’t ever need it to be.
Is there a better alternative?
No. Traktor is better for use with turntables, but does not have the same capabilities as Serato DJ. Virtual DJ is fantastic too. It is particularly useful if you do not have Serato compatible hardware.
Our take
Serato DJ is a great option for professional and amateur bedroom DJs. It is easy to get a handle on. You’ll be recording sets and performing live with confidence.
Should you download it?
Yes, download it now. If you don’t want to pay the monthly subscription, try out DJ Intro from Serato. It’s packed full of features, and is wonderful for DJ’s starting out.

Serato Scratch Live Mac Download
I have Serato Scratch Live 2.5 and a Rane TTM57 - I just upgraded to OSX El Capitan (accidentally- yes I know, a HUGE mistake) and now Serato is not working. Some people are saying that Scratch Live DOES work with El Capitan- but mine does not. I tried deleting the SeratoScratchDriver.kext file and that did not work. We're working hard to support Mac OS X El Capitan as soon as possible but for now we don't recommend updating. There will be an update to Serato DJ that adds support in the near future. We’ve been hard at work testing compatibility with this new operating system since the final version was made available to us as developers, and while many of our products function perfectly with the new Mac OS, a few need updates to their drivers in order to work as well with El Capitan.
We do not recommend updating to OS X 10.11 El Capitan until your product is listed as compatible here on this article.
Long-term support is incredibly important to our customer's success, as we're committed to developing and releasing products that you can depend on for years to come. We understand how frustrating it is to have a DJ controller that was developed to work perfectly with existing operating systems when it was developed, later frozen in time when new operating systems come out, while the work of creating new drivers is being done.
Current Numark products incorporate a number of engineering changes that help ensure flexibility and support into the future. For example, the Mixtrack Series, NV and NS7III controllers are all class-compliant on Mac and require no driver updates. This is one example of steps we are taking to improve the customer experience and ensure long-term support.
Older Numark products that required audio drivers for previous operating systems are products that we still continue to support in the areas of hardware related issues and basic troubleshooting. We will also continue to take the steps necessary to create and engineer new drivers for newer OS releases for these older models. Unfortunately not all of these products are not supported for use on Mac OSX 10.11 El Capitan at the moment. Our recommendation remains the same: hold off installing any optional Mac OS X updates to your performance computer's OS until we have built, fully tested and announced any driver releases here in this article.
As always, if you are doing critical production work or are actively performing with your system, it is strongly recommended that you refrain from updating to El Capitan until we have provided updates that insure El Capitan compatibility.

I would hold off for a bit NI has big problems. Unless you have no choice wait until Serato put out an update
Serato have announced problems with El Capitan and advise users to hold off updating until they resolve issues
As always, don’t do big OS upgrades on a machine you use for mission-critical applications (like DJ software) until it’s been out a while and all manufacturers have had time to update drivers, software and firmware. I’d say at least a couple of months.
After all, when your mission-critical application IS working now, why mess with it in a hurry.
